Can you manage time? You can’t. Nobody can manage time. Time is uncontrollable and unmanageable.
But, we can manage ourselves. In fact, managing ourselves is time management. It’s all about planning one’s work and working according to that plan. It needs proper scheduling and some commitment to follow that schedule.
Time Management skills are very essential to succeed in life. These skills are the techniques which have helped all the leaders, they may be in business, sport, social, and public service & politics; reach the pinnacles of their respective careers.
There are certain rules one may find useful:
- ‘The 80:20 Rule’ or Pareto Principle: According to Pareto Principle, 80% of unfocussed effort achieve only 20% of results. The remaining 80% of results are generated with only 20% of focused effort. So, being focused is only solution to manage time.
- Personal Time Management: It is about controlling the use of your most valuable resources. In the absence of this, there will be last minute rushes to meet dead-lines. This leads to work burden, stress and degradation in efficiency.
- Poor time management: It is the result of over confidence, lethargic lifestyle, and indifferent attitude. Being disciplined, well-planned and realistic will solve this problem.
- Time Management is itself a management process and it must be well-planned, administered, and reviewed on regularly basis.
- Time is often wasted in changing between activities. To solve this, it is advisable to group similar projects & tasks together to avoid the start-up delays.
- Schedule your work and Projects.
